A SEAT AT THE TABLE: DINING WITH THE SULTAN
This exhibition is a journey through the cultural, spiritual, and political significance of food across the Islamic world. From early Islamic traditions to contemporary Qatar, the exhibition brings together over a hundred historic objects, immersive environments, and sensory experiences to explore how food has shaped daily life, rituals, and expressions of power. Divided into five thematic sections, it invites visitors to reflect on the shared act of eating, the symbolism of ingredients, and the rich histories behind culinary exchange.
As exhibition designers, we approached the project with a focus on material storytelling, translating abstract ideas into physical space. Each gallery was conceived as a distinct atmosphere: from the warmth of communal ovens to the formality of royal banquets, from open-air markets to intimate moments of devotion. The design balances texture and light, scale and rhythm, to create a layered experience that encourages curiosity, memory, and connection.
